The City of Attleboro announced Oct. 19 that it recently discovered a data event that may have affected the privacy of information belonging to certain individuals.

According to the notice, the city identified suspicious activity on its computer systems on Nov. 20, 2025, and took steps to limit further risk. An investigation with third-party forensic specialists found that unauthorized activity affected city systems between Oct. 22, 2025, and Nov. 20, 2025. After a review by a data specialist, the city determined on Sept. 22, 2026, that information related to individuals may have been impacted.

The types of information potentially involved include names, Social Security numbers, financial account information, driver's license numbers, passport numbers, government identification numbers, dates of birth, medical and health insurance information, taxpayer identification numbers, biometric data, electronic signatures and usernames or passwords.

The city said it plans to mail notice letters to individuals whose personal information was involved and for whom it has a mailing address. Anyone who believes they may be affected but does not receive a letter can call a dedicated assistance line at 888-752-8537, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time, or write to City of Attleboro, Cyber Incident, 77 Park St, Attleboro, MA 02703.

The city said it has secured its network and added administrative and technical safeguards. Potentially affected individuals are encouraged to monitor financial statements and credit reports for unusual activity. Massachusetts residents have the right to obtain any police report filed regarding the incident, and identity theft victims have the right to file a police report and obtain a copy.
