Attleboro school enrollment falls by 201 students

School Committee · Meeting of November 2, 2026

Attleboro schools reported a 201-student drop in foundation enrollment ahead of the FY28 budget cycle. Superintendent Sawyer told the School Committee on Monday that the October 1 certified count is down from last year, with per-pupil spending just under $18,000. She cited the 524-student class of 2026 versus a 398-student kindergarten class, and English learners falling from 577 to 472.

Committee member Domenici put the effect at about $3.6 million, while Bennett said the lack of a cushion leaves "this crater" in the budget. The committee also unanimously approved two sets of minutes and a five-item consent agenda, with a level-service estimate due in December and state figures in January.
