ATTLEBORO — The Attleboro City Council voted 8-0 to adopt a $200,445,712 fiscal 2027 general fund budget during a special meeting focused on closing out year-end finances. Finance Committee Chair Councilor Delisio had the budget read line by line "in an abundance of caution" after talks with the city auditor and council president. The mayor warned the Capron Park Zoo faces a deficit nearing $5 million this year that could reach $13 million to $15 million within a few years, saying "the question is how much damage the wave does when it lands." Councilors also ratified a new three-year Crossing Guards Association contract with 1.5 percent raises in years one and two and 2 percent in year three, approved a $301,789.54 state 9-1-1 training grant, and cleared nearly a dozen smaller transfers, including $78,847.79 for Brennan and Wamsutta elementary school door replacements and $360,000 for Hyman Fine Elementary access-road repairs, all by unanimous roll call.
